Inspiration from singer Jewel

When I was about eight-nine years old, there was this one song that was always stuck in my head because it had some very nice notes and accents that made it super catchy for me back then. We didn’t have a computer, so finding a song that you really liked from the radio was a matter of real luck. Well, this didn’t happen to me, I grew out of that song and moved on with my musical taste…

Years later, at 22, while watching consistently the “#AskGaryVee” show on Youtube, I came across this one episode that truly blew my mind in terms of how deeply I could connect with the things that lady was talking about, and in a matter of minutes I found, just like that, the song, that song that I really, really liked back in my childhood. The happiness was beyond expression, not only due to the found puzzle, but also because the vulnerable things she was touching upon were full of wisdom and I felt grateful to listen and learn from her. Everything comes at the right time and place, I thought to myself.

The song is called “Intuition”. The singer is Jewel Kilcher and she was Gary Vaynerchuk’s guest in the episode 238, which is really worth watching! I had no idea who she was, so after the brilliant advises she gave I thought I should check her out on Youtube, and the first song that appeared was this one! Amazing.

Some of her suggestions that deeply impressed me are:

“Self esteem from inside out is realizing that you’re capable of doing things because you’ve been given the opportunity to struggle, which is a blessing.

If I look back at my life I knew that at 15 I should have been a  statistic. I knew that girls like me, boys like me ended up repeating the cycle that they were raised by. And I didn’t want to be a statistic, so my life’s mission became this idea of nature versus nurture. So if you received bad nurture then you got to know your real nature.

I perceive therefore I am, become mindful of your feelings, ’cause fear is a thief and it steals the past and it projects it into the future and it robs you of the only opportunity you have, to create change, I needed to create change.

What we call human nature in actuality is human habit.

What I learned is that I was very lonely, and a lot of people are lonely. But I deserved to be lonely because I only told the truth in one place and it was in a notebook that nobody read. So I decided to take a risk and be vulnerable and talk about what was real.

Happiness is a byproduct, not an actual destination. It’s a byproduct of certain behaviors and you can set yourself up to win and to be happy. Happiness is a learned skill and a lot of our houses don’t teach happiness. I believe more in harmony than in balance, ’cause balance is binary while harmony says that my life has certain components: I’m a woman, a mom, I’m sexual, I’m spiritual, I’m a business woman, all of those limbs have to have a tone. If only a few are strong and the others are atrophied, we have disharmony and dissatisfaction.”

Here’s what was so awesome about that song:

Follow your heart
Your intuition
It will lead you in the right direction
Let go of your mind
Your Intuition
It’s easy to find
Just follow your heart baby
